
The National Association for Children of Incarcerated Parents is formed exclusively for charitable, scientific, and educational purposes of preventing the cycle of intergenerational crime through a comprehensive framework of programs, research, training and advocacy designed to effectively address the needs of children of incarcerated parents. This organization and its members will strive to:
- Stimulate the development and operation of training programs for practitioners dealing with children of incarcerated parents;
- Identify and disseminate best practices for comprehensive programs designed to meet the needs of children of incarcerated parents;
- Facilitate the collection and dissemination of data with respect to the risk, needs, and protective factors of children of incarcerated parents;
- Stimulate research regarding the risk, need, and protective factors associated with children of incarcerated parents;
- Stimulate research regarding the evaluation of programmatic efforts designed to meet the needs of children of incarcerated parents;
- Provide liaison with other organizations and professional groups interested in issues relating to children of incarcerated parents;
- Interpret and promote the concepts of meeting the needs of children of incarcerated parents at the national, state and local levels;
- Serve as a forum group for persons and organizations interested in children of incarcerated parents;
- Encourage more attention on the issue of the effects of parental incarceration on children.
